Values
Modern technologies
In 2007 NWR took a major strategic decision to improve the efficiency and profitability of its business. Our principal project, Productivity Optimisation Programme (‘POP 2010’) is now complete and our investment is already starting to deliver increased productivity performance, reduced maintenance efforts and improved health and safety at our mines. We also implemented Coking Plant Optimisation Programme (‘COP 2010’), which will help to improve the efficiency of our coking operations. COP 2010 was concluded by modernising and centralising the Company’s coking operations at the Svoboda site while closing the Jan Sverma operations by the end of 2010.
Health and safety of our employees is of the highest priority
Maintaining the highest standards of health and safety is critical for a business working in an inherently dangerous environment and we have continued our drive to raise standards and reduce risks in all our operations. Hard coal mining inevitably involves a high degree of risk, particularly in our case given the depth of many of our operations. The risks emanating from geological hazards, including rock falls as well as gas explosions, are always present and have to be adequately managed ... More >>
Sustainability
We believe that high standards of corporate responsibility are critical to the sustainability and profitability of our business. Keeping our employees safe, minimising our environmental impact and contributing to the communities where we operate, are all integral to the way we operate.

Reclamation

Since 1989, we have spent more than CZK 4 billion on environment protection and reclamation. The pace of land recovery works has increased as a result of co-financing from government bodies ... Waste and pollution
We are committed to minimising the impact of refuse from our operations. We maintain refuse disposal storage sites for waste rock - coarse and fine debris - and we sell a portion of waste rock for local use in road building and construction. We also recover fine coal waste from ponds wherever possible, which is then blended with other coal products for sale ... More >>
Our community
Our contribution to the local communities where we operate is channelled through the OKD Foundation, a charitable organisation established by OKD in 2008. The Foundation has rapidly become a well-respected leader in the not for profit sector of the Czech Republic. It has distributed approximately EUR 3.8 million and supported over 600 projects so far ... More >>
