OKD, a.s. ('OKD')
OKD is the only producer of hard coal in the Czech Republic, operating in the southern part of the Upper-Silesian coal basin. OKD’s reserves are located in the Karvina and Ostrava regions, covering a total area of approximately 120 square kilometres. The area is noted for the quality of its coal, which has a high calorific value and low sulphur content. Many of our customers have relied on our coal and its characteristics for decades.
OKD currently operates four active coal mines - The Karvina Mine (combining mining sites CSA and Lazy), The CSM Mine, The Darkov Mine, and The Paskov Mine.
OKD produced 11.2 million tonnes of coal in 2011 of which 4.4 million tonnes of coking coal and 6.2 million tonnes of thermal coal were externally sold.
