OKD Company ranks among the top philanthropists in the Czech Republic

Amsterdam, November 11, 2009 – New World Resources N. V. (NWR) is proud to announce that its subsidiary OKD ranked second in the prestigious TOP Filantrop 2009 (TOP Philanthropist 2009) contest, which evaluates companies according to the means they provide for publicly beneficial purposes. At the same time, OKD also won the category award for the “best newcomer” to leap into contention. This goes to the company that gains the best ranking from a first-time participation in the competition. Last year, OKD donated a total of CZK 78.5m to publicly beneficial purposes.

Since last year, OKD has mainly been distributing its donations through its company foundation. Among the OKD Foundation's most important donors is NWR.

Top Filantrop is the only competition in the Czech Republic that evaluates the corporate social responsibility of companies in several categories and awards those which have adopted socially responsible behavior as an integral part of their business activities.

„OKD has committed itself to investing one percent of its profit in publicly beneficial purposes on a yearly basis, a practice that is standard for the world’s top corporations. In contrast to many other company donors, OKD has not reduced its philanthropic activities even in these times of economic crisis,” said Petra Mašínová, Head of Corporate Communication at NWR, upon accepting the award.

From this year’s results, it is shown that the one percent profit standard is still only being fulfilled by the most progressive companies in the Czech Republic. “I believe that we will be an inspiration for other big and small company donors,” added Mašínová.
