AMSTERDAM (14 May 2010) – New World Resources N.V. („NWR“) is pleased to announce that its subsidiary OKD, a. s. („OKD“) has achieved a noteworthy success in the field of corporate communication.
Horník, an OKD company weekly for workers in the mining industry, took second prize in its category in the “Zlatý středník” (“Golden Semicolon”) awards. Some 28,000 copies of the weekly are published by R MEDIA. The annual awards involve independent experts judging corporate publications and Internet presentations of Czech companies. The annual report of the OKD Foundation also picked up an award in this year’s contest, which received entries from 130 corporate publications.
In 2009, Horník, a newspaper read every week not only by OKD employees but also by their families and retired miners, underwent a major change. Apart from new graphics it now also offers, for example, a whole page dedicated to the company’s OKD Foundation, detailed information on daily life in the mines and an improved page for the company’s Polish workers.
Further success at the awards saw the OKD corporate profile, website and 2008 annual report awarded “Top Rated” status.
„A corporate newspaper or a magazine is an integral part of the communication of any large company. But we do not want to take the approach of simply going through the motions of providing information to our employees to fulfil a duty. On the contrary, we make an effort to prepare the contents of Horník so that in addition to its important and timely company information, it provides its readers with the opportunity to learn what´s new in the region and about projects of our foundation,” said Petra Mašínová, NWR Head of Corporate Communication.
Alongside Horník’s accomplishment at the awards, the OKD Foundation annual report achieved a marked success by placing second in the category for corporate and other types of annual reports. The foundation’s achievement deserves real recognition since its entry beat the annual reports of large companies, which allocated much higher funding for the drawing up of their reports.
„We are very happy that what is our first annual report has achieved such a great success. We tried to provide all the important information on the activities of our foundation to our readers in an unusual but appealing form”, commented Blanka Týřová, Director of the OKD Foundation. The wide and colourful range of graphics and content for the report were supplied by communication agency Bison & Rose, one of the foundation’s regular partners.
