OKD a premium member of Business for Society group

30/4/2010

AMSTERDAM, 30 April 2010 – New World Resources N.V. („NWR“) is pleased to announce that its subsidiary OKD, a. s. („OKD”), is one of the initiators of a newly-founded platform, Byznys pro společnost (Business for Society).

This new association intends to participate in improving the corporate social responsibility (CSR) shown by Czech entrepreneurs. Besides OKD, 16 other important Czech companies form its premium membership.

“Corporate social responsibility is a phenomenon of today’s times. I am very pleased that one of our subsidiaries belongs among the leaders in this area and is there at the birth of a major platform that will mean a new future for CSR in the Czech Republic. The NWR group’s long-term strategic priorities include supporting the regions, improving safety at work and health protection at our workplaces and last, but not least, organisation and support for many charity projects,” said Petra Mašínová, Head of Corporate Communication for NWR.

The creation of the platform was inspired by British organisation Business in the Community. This group, to which more than 800 important companies contribute, has been presided over by His Royal Highness Prince Charles for 25 years. “The fact that the majority of companies are already integrating responsibility into their business model is a step towards a real change in thinking. In essence, we are at the beginning of the 'age of business responsibility,” said Steven Howard, General Director of Business in the Community.
